This year is definitely a bitter-sweet one. My mind subconsciously reminds me that there are lots of errands to run and stuff to be taken care of before the “deadline”, but my emotional attach to people I see on a daily basis obliged me to take actions the other way around . Admittedly, the approaching moment of being ready starts to put me on edge. I just have to constantly remind myself how important to continue to evolve as a person when our perceptions and decisions being challenged by the environment. On a bright note, the memory will be cherished, deeply in my heart.
The best part about being an earlier riser is to embrace this equal part of quiet and possibility.
Just as usual, I woke up at 5:30am today, feeling a bit of a chill, but I still got up and poured myself a cup of iced coffee to start the day. I didn’t know what’s for breakfast… sometimes I just don’t feel like craving anything though I skipped dinner last night. Getting some work done first definitely would put me in a good mood and that might help me figure out what to eat later, so I came to my desk to work on my drawings. Since I’ve already had ideas as how to design today’s two characters, the drawings were completed smoothly and efficiently just as I expected. I wouldn’t say I’m feeling 100% satisfied with today’s work, if I had used more vibrant colors, the result might be more ideal. Still I’m glad to have my day started on a good note!
I headed out around 7:00am and stopped by at Tropical Smoothie Café to get my breakfast. I got an American wrap and a Sunrise Sunset smoothie, which definitely is the best to boost my energy in the morning, regardless the fact I had a coffee before. At 7:30am, I arrived at the school and then picked up some newspapers my colleague left in my mailbox. It was nice to enjoy the breakfast while reading some of today’s printed news before turning on my work computer to connect with this digital world.
Right after 8:00am, the hallway started to be filled with wandering and waiting students…well, that’s the reminder for me to officially start working on my before-school-to-do list: revising lesson objectives, final editing slides, going over lesson plans, updating and organizing Google Classroom and Canvas……last but not the least, checking my work emails! All had been crossed off my list before the first student stepped into the classroom at 8:25am.
As soon as the first bell rings at 8:30am, I always feel that brings an air of urgency. Because the following five minutes before the second bell was like catching-up with your peers for the past 24 hours …Well, I guess that’s why a moment of silence right after the Pledge of Allegiance has been my favorite every day.
Since today marked the last day of the first quarter, the schedule was so busy for me to do anything else but keep moving…Thankfully at the end of the day, a sense of fulfillment reminded me that I have a purpose to get up earlier tomorrow morning, well, hopefully!
On Sunday, May 8th I was a panel speaker at GWU, giving a presentation about "Teaching Chinese in a creative and artistic way";
It was a great experience for me to share my ideas and teaching philosophies with all wonderful educators;
It was a Mother's day, and also a day marked me finish drawing 100 characters.
I love to share my work with you, to hear from you, and to learn from you :)
